What can I reuse or recycle to make placemats/table mats?

We have been using our more dining table before recently - regular use stops that always dumping for everything we have ground but can not properly storage be bothered. But because we are newcomers to the idea of actually restaurants at a dining table (in contrast to use it as an Office desk that we did until very recently), we have no placemats or anything like that.

Now I know I could only find, some pretty fabric and whip up some mats on a sewing machine, perhaps with the stuff a little batting / few additional layers in the Middle more heat resistant - make, but where's the fun?

Did you placemats by reuse/Upcycling something fun? I could RIP for Upcycling because you are old clothes only substance (such as placemats from old T-shirts or of old jeans with cutlery bags; are shaped I think, would felted jumper to work). Does anyone have any other ideas clothing recycling ideas?

And what about other ideas? John has the patterns on logs recently-enjoy a thin slice of the ends was if we could some pretty protocols and painting that might work. I have an other half idea of weaving some mats with old packaging materials – some colorful card (although it should be at least wipe-clean), some plastic bottles or drinks cans… Done someone something similar?

Would love to hear any ideas!
